Recently J K. Rowling has announced, that she is ready to make a tour in the USA, it will be the 1st and long-awaited tour since 2007. During this tour the following events will be held: 3 of them for schoolchildren (in the cities of New York, New Orleans and Los Angeles) and another in New York. Each event will be held in a specific way - Rowling will read parts from the 7th book about Harry Potter adventures, moreover she will answer the question of fans and sign a lot of copies of the latest book.
So, according to the official data, you must wait for J.K. Rowling visit in Los Angeles (15th of October) at the Kodak Theatre, in New Orleans (18th of October) - at the Ernest N. Memorial Auditorium at the Convention Center and in New York (19th of October) at the Carnegie Hall. So, as you already understood, these events will be exclusively for schoolchildren (schools were previously selected) but the 4th event will be opened for the whole fans of Harry Potter series and its author. Fans of all ages are welcomed.
